The National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) has decided to introduce digital payment methods with a receipt.
The Water Board will introduce digital payment due to the shortage of paper to print utility bills.
Additional General Manager (Billing) Piyal Pathmanatha said a shortage of printing paper has been reported due to the dollar crisis in Sri Lanka.
He said the companies that import papers for printing utility bills are facing numerous difficulties due to the dollar shortage.
As a result, the Water Board is considering introducing alternative methods to help consumers to settle their bills, Pathmanatha said.
Meanwhile, the National Water Supply and Drainage Board has also announced that action will be taken against outstanding bills of 06 months to one year that are yet to be settled.
The Water Board said authorities have been instructed to disconnect the water supply of such outstanding bills.
Additional General Manager (Billing) Piyal Pathmanatha said that the disconnection of water supply was temporarily suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.
He said this move has resulted in nearly Rs. 7.5 billion being yet to be settled by consumers.
Stating that the water board has not increased its charges in 10 years, Pathmanatha said a need has arisen now to impose a price revision. (NewsWire)
