Water sold for Rs 24,000 under the guise of diesel

Two persons have been defrauded by an individual who had sold cans of water under the guise of diesel for an amount of Rs. 24,000 in the Bandaragama area.

The suspect had approached two men who were standing in a fuel queue and had asked if they would like to purchase a stock of secretly hoarded fuel.

As the men had been standing in queue for days without food and rest, they had agreed to purchase the said stock of fuel.

The suspect had thereafter handed over 2 cans of diesel each to the victims for a cost of Rs. 24,000, which was bought by the victims after an initial inspection.

However, following a leak in the diesel can of one of the victims’ it had been identified that the suspect had sold them cans of water, instead of diesel.

Upon inspection of all cans of diesel, the victims had identified that all were water and not diesel.

Despite attempts to locate the suspect who had sold them water, the victims were unable to find the suspect.

The victims have been identified as one person who sells Thembili in a small lorry and the other the owner of a small lorry. (NewsWire)
