Sri Lankan processed food manufacturer Gills International claims unfair allegations were raised against its factory in an attempt to shut it down.
Speaking to Hari TV, Chairman of Gills International Roshan de Soyza said that some had tried to portray the factory as an animal slaughter house using fake pictures abroad.
He clarified that this is a food processing factory and not a slaughter house as portrayed by some.
He said that his institution has provided processed food for Sri Lankan Airlines and several other countries for many years now with highest quality and standards.
Soyza denied that cattle slaughter happening in his factory and said that they have only imported meat from India.
“We only do food processing here, we don’t slaughter animals, we buy them from outside and process it with other food for Imports” he added.
The factory established on a three-acre land at Katunayake aims to meet 10% of the international market requirement for meat-related products. It is expected to produce around 400 products, including value-added meat and vegetarian dishes.
The Gills International new Foods factory which is situated in the Katunayake Export Processing Zone was declared opened by Government officials including Minister Namal Rajapaksa, Siripala Gamlath, Kanchana Wijesekera, D.V. Chanaka, and Arundika Fernando earlier in December (11).
It made controversy after some had argued that the Government had allowed to open a meat processing factory after promising to ban cattle slaughter in the country. (NewsWire)
