Weather : Change expected in dry weather conditions from today

A change can be expected in the prevailing dry weather conditions experienced in Sri Lanka, from today, according to the Department of Meteorology. 

Thereby, several spells of showers will occur in the Eastern, Uva and Northern provinces. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, Southern, North-Western and North-Central provinces during the afternoon or night. 

Fairly heavy showers above 50mm are likely at some places in the Sabaragamuwa Province. 

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in the Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and Galle and Matara districts during the morning. 

Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kankasanthurai to Hambantota via Trincomalee and Batticaloa. Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the other sea areas around the island during the afternoon or night.

Winds will be easterly or variable in direction and wind speed will be 20-30 kmph. Wind speed may increase up to 35-40 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil. 

The sea areas off the coasts extending from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil can be moderate at times. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers. (NewsWire)
