Weather : Mainly fair weather expected in most areas

The Department of Meteorology says mainly fair weather will prevail over most parts of the country today.

The department said, however, showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in the Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern, and Uva provinces during the afternoon or night.

Misty conditions can be expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Uva, Central, and North-Central provinces in the Galle and Matara districts during the morning.

The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

The department further said that the low-pressure area in the southwest Bay of Bengal is very likely to intensify further and move closer to the northern coast of Sri Lanka over the weekend.

Therefore, Fishing and naval communities in the deep and shallow sea areas, off the coast, extending from Kankasanturai to Batticaloa via Trincomalee have been requested to be vigilant of future weather advisories.

The Met department further said showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in sea areas around the island.

Winds will be northerly or variable in direction. Wind speed will be 20-35 kmph. The sea areas around the island will be slight, it added. (NewsWire)
