A tragic incident unfolded near a Weligama hotel, where a Police Sergeant from the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) lost his life, and a sub-inspector sustained injuries in a shooting.
Police Spokesman Nihal Thalduwa revealed that the CCD officials engaged in a firefight with suspected individuals.
Unfortunately, another police team on night rounds mistook the CCD officers for criminals and opened fire on their white van near the hotel.
A special investigation is underway, and the Police Spokesman couldn’t confirm if the CCD officer’s death resulted from police gunfire, citing reports of suspects firing at the van before the arrival of the area police team. (NewsWire)
