Several complaints have been filed with the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) claiming that various areas, especially Colombo have been exempted from the scheduled power cuts.
Issuing a statement, the PUCSL said that it has been notified that several areas, especially in Colombo city have been exempted from the proposed power cuts.
Chairman of the PUCSL Janaka Rathnayaka said that consumers have pointed out that several areas in Colombo have not been imposed any power cuts.
He further said that upon inquiring it had been found that power cuts had not been imposed in the areas of Colombo 01- 15.
Rathnayake said that thereby, the PUCSL has instructed the licensee to carry out power shedding with fairness and equity to all consumers without any discrimination or favouritism.
Consumers have also complained that power cuts have not been imposed in several areas where political leaders live.
The PUCSL further directed that areas of only important infrastructures such as hospitals should be exempted from the scheduled power cuts.
Meanwhile, the Secretary to the Ministry of Energy Wasantha Perera has called on the consumer to lodge complaints if a power cut is not imposed in any area as scheduled.
She said consumers can file their complaints by contacting the Ministry through the hotline 1987. (NewsWire)
