A 65-year-old woman who was preparing to contest the local government election has been killed in Minuwangoda.
The Police stated that the woman had been murdered at her residence in Yagodamulla in Minuwagoda, while her house had also been set on fire.
The Police suspect that the woman may have been hacked to death.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the deceased is Shanthi Padmini who was preparing to contest for the Local Government elections under the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP).
The magisterial inquiry into the death has been conducted, while the body has been handed over to the Gampaha Judicial Medical Officer for the postmortem examination.
The Minuwangoda Police is conducting investigations into the incident. (NewsWire)
