A wild elephant that was stranded after falling into a ditch in the Puthur area in Vavuniya has been rescued with the intervention of the Prime Minister’s Chief of Staff Yoshitha Rajapaksa.
The elephant is reported to have fallen over two weeks ago, with Wildlife officials failing to respond to calls of rescue.
However, the Prime Minister’s Chief of Staff Yoshitha Rajapaksa had come across the video footage of the elephant in distress on social media and had informed relevant authorities to take immediate action to rescue the animal.
The elephant was rescued by a team of wildlife and military personnel after a period of over two weeks. (NewsWire)
