A youth has been arrested for threatening to publish intimate photographs of a female school student on social media.
The suspect, who was arrested by the Dambulla Police, has been identified as a 23-year-old resident of Gallenbindunuwewa.
The youth had deceived the schoolgirl, who is a resident of Dambulla, and had obtained her intimate photographs.
He had thereafter threatened to publish it on social media if she refuses to pay a sum of Rs. 45,000.
An investigation had been launched into the incident after a complaint was filed with the Dambulla Police by the victim’s mother.
The suspect had been informed to meet the schoolgirl in Dambulla on Saturday (16), during which the Police had arrested him.
The Police had inspected the youth’s mobile phone and had found more intimate photographs of other young girls as well.
The youth has been remanded over the offence, after being produced in court. (NewsWire)
